Due to the hiatus that Porsche suffered from back in 1980’s, the German car maker had to come up with a backup plan. The 928 was introduced due to the insistent demand of the customers to replace the 911. Resulting to further development of a new 911 which lead to the 964 that was introduced in 1988.
The 964 even had a rear-wheel drive version for purist way back 1990 model year. In addition to that, though the AWD and RWD versions can produce 246HP, Carrera 4 still carries more powerful engine as a compensation for the 100kg weight difference.
964 is fitted with an advanced lightweight metal chassis, ABS brakes, power steering, rounder bumpers, fully covered underbody which made a 0.32 drag coefficient possible with the same performance with 930 Turbo. Aside from that, 85% of the parts were new, they redesigned important parts of the body, and it even houses a redeveloped engine.

Moreover, whoever happened to purchase this novelty knew that it has an improved handling characteristics due to the electrically-actuated spoiler at 80km/h without hurting the design (below 80km/h). 946 is available in coupe, convertible, targa, Turbo, and Speedster body styles.
On the other hand, the “993” which Porsche spent 400 million German Marks to develop has a 286 hp. Its inspiration came from the “Urelfer”-shape (first generation) complete with the integrated body and deleted bumpers. This novelty is fitted with flat headlights, restyled fenders and bumpers from the 964. Six-speed transmission and new multi-link rear axle can be found underneath the sheetmetal. The German car manufacturer manage to get back on the game with their Carrera RS with 300 hp, 409 hp turbo version, and Carrera 4S, and GT2 424 hp.

Though the Porsche 964 and 933 later fell behind, which was the final generation of air-cooled 911 which salvaged Porsche from the crisis, they still hold a special place in the history of Porsche.
If you’re one of the people who purchased either of this two, car grooming wouldn’t be just a chore, it would actually honor the contribution of these cars in the business of Porsche.
