This isn't just a bad case of paranoia, especially knowing that a vehicle is stolen in U.S every 27 seconds. This happens, just because it never happened to you doesn’t mean it’s not a real problem. This rampant felony is even considered an economic loss to society. No wonder a lot of people is just so anxious about their possessions all the time. All those money that you had to shell out for the car, the expenses that comes with it like car grooming, the time that you've allotted to tend for it, and the fondness towards it that you invested would all be for nothing when the next theft decides to steal yours.
Some may argue that there are more vital things to worry about than cars, but a loss is a loss no matter what everyone says.
On the other hand, know that this is something that we have no control over. Here are some precautions that you may do in order to have a little peace of mind:
- Be sure that when you leave your car, even for a second, all the windows are closed and doors and the trunk is locked.
- If you can, it would be better if you can install a GPS tracking system, vehicle immobilizer system, audible alarm system and visible anti-theft device.
- Do not leave the engine running when the car is unattended.
- Follow your instinct, if it seems like there are suspicious people lurking in the parking area, leave and park somewhere else.
- Don’t assume that you’re clever for hiding that spare key that will save you when you get locked out. Thieves have probably heard about those hiding spots already.
